Target: 2030 Energy and Climate Challenges Conference 01/14/2009 - 01/15/2009 SACRAMENTO, CA — In mid-January 2009 CALSTART is planning a symposium at the Hyatt Regency in Sacramento aimed at providing a critical new perspective and establishing a forum for identifying, stimulating and measuring real actions. Target 2030 will highlight the comprehensive solutions needed to achieve a secure transportation energy and climate future. It will be the first conference to talk about solutions that are not only related to the vehicle and fuel, but also about land-use planning, transit, and sustainable mobility innovations. Target 2030 will integrate the key areas of integrated policies and actions needed: More efficient vehicles; Greater fuel diversity and reduced carbon; Increased Transit use; and Energy efficient land use design to reduce VMT The timing of this conference was selected for three reasons. Approximately one week prior to the new administration taking the reins in Washington, DC, the conference will highlight California’s unique role in pursuing leading strategies to reduce transportation related greenhouse gases and oil dependence. The conference will be a major opportunity to highlight the late 2008 CARB actions related to the AB 32 Scoping Plan. It’ll be a major opportunity to educate policymakers and industry leaders on what has been done under the scoping plan, and to then highlight what additional actions may be required to reduce greenhouse gas emissions over the next two decades. Lastly, January 2009 represents the beginning of the final and critically important last two years of the Schwarzenegger administration. CALSTART is designing Target 2030 to be an interactive symposium – a dialog – to give voice to divergent views but also to develop a course of action which integrates these four essential pieces of the sustainable transportation puzzle. For more informatation about this event, please visit: www.calstart.org.
